Shopify products missing or out of date in Google Merchant Center? How to check

Shopify's Google & YouTube app says your products are syncing, and Merchant Center shows no errors. But Merchant Center has fewer products than Shopify, or still shows an old price or stock level. Here's how to find exactly which ones, and why.

Missing, stale or disapproved: three different problems

This guide is about the last two, which Google's diagnostics don't flag.

Step 1: compare the counts, then trace a few products

Step 2: rule out the usual causes

Step 3: be careful with reinstalling

Reinstalling the app is the most common advice, but merchants warn it can change your product IDs, losing their history in Merchant Center. Try disconnecting and reconnecting Merchant Center inside the app first.

Would an automatic check help?

We build small apps that check that one business tool really has what another says it sent, and stay quiet unless it doesn't. We're deciding whether to build one for this: comparing what Shopify says should be on Google with what Merchant Center actually has, product by product, and emailing you about missing or stale ones. If this has happened to you, tell us how often and what it cost. It helps us decide.
